Bondage Cuffs

Part of Bondage/Domination/Sadism/Masochism (BDSM) play usually involves restraints. Bondage cuffs and collars feature widely. They come in a variety of materials and can be beautiful, pleasurably scary, and downright sexy!

Bondage cuffs for the wrists and ankles are especially designed for sex play and won’t cause damage to the wrists, ankles, hands and feet (unlike handcuffs, which are not designed for sex play and can impair circulation and cause nerve and tendon damage). Bondage cuffs are wider, usually made of leather, and are frequently padded with soft materials or fur. They often have buckles or D-rings so that the person wearing them can be tied down or chained without causing damaging pressure to the body.

Suspension cuffs are a specially designed cuff that can take the weight of a suspended body while providing enough support that joints and nerves aren’t damaged. Don’t use regular bondage cuffs if you decide to try suspension play, as you could end up causing permanent nerve or tendon damage to the suspended partner.

Bondage Collars

Collars are used in BDSM play to mark the submissive partner. It can also act as a symbol of being “owned” by the master/mistress. There are many types of collars, and most will have some sort of attachment point to facilitate the use of a leash. Most collars are made of leather, but PVC, rubber, velvet, and even metals such as stainless steel are also popular. The most common two varieties of collars are:

  • Dog Collar—these studded collars are what spring to mind when most of us think about collars.
  • Corset Collars—these collars cover the entire neck (and sometimes even the mouth). Because of their elaborate construction they are more expensive than dog collars, so they are commonly used by more serious BDSM players.
