Stockings and hosiery

Stockings and hosiery finish a look. Thigh-highs stay up with a silicone grip or lace top, fishnets add texture and pantyhose and tights give full coverage. Open-crotch styles are made for the bedroom, and garter belts hold up stockings that do not have a grip.

Check the size chart and the fibre content, as sheer fabrics stretch but can snag. Remove rings and jewellery before you put them on, and roll the stocking up your leg gently. Wash by hand in cool water or use a mesh bag on a delicate cycle, and let them air dry.

Keep a spare pair, since even careful wear can cause a snag. A little hairspray at the end of a run can stop it from spreading.
