What is a gag?

A gag is an accessory worn in the mouth during consensual play. It limits speech and adds to the feeling of surrender. The most common types are ball gags, which have a ball held in place by a strap, and bit gags, which look like the part of a horse bridle that sits in the mouth.

Always agree on a safe word or a hand signal before use, because speech is limited. Choose a gag that fits comfortably and does not press on the throat, and never leave a gagged person unattended. Silicone gags are easy to clean. Wash with warm water and soap and let them dry fully.

Remove the gag right away if a partner signals distress. Agreeing on a hand signal, such as dropping a small object, is a simple way to stay safe.
